Introduction to WomenArtists Swellcast
Hello when you think of contemporary painters who made an impact on the world, who comes to mind, you might think of Andy Warhol and his famous Campbell Soup cans, or maybe Roy Lichenstein and his comic book inspired by paintings. What you may not realize is how many female painters have made and are currently making just as much of an impact. Some of them seem to be forgotten. And throughout history we had so many talented female artists

Robin, was that I'm glad that you're doing this here. And you know. Yeah, come to think of it, we really don't know anything with any women's painters that everyone knows. Picasso and Vanguard, Vincent, Man Gogh, stuff like that. I Man painters. But don't really hear people talk about women painters, do we

But I think we still need to honor female artists in all aspects, not just painting even, but music and writing and all of the creative arts. So glad you're here. It's going to be funny, I hope. Thanks

Hi, Taylor. Great to have you here. And yes, the art history AP. That is a difficult test. Actually, I've taught in the school district in some AP art classes, AP art history and basically regular studio classes. But yeah, amazing. I'm glad you're here. And you brought up a good point how they were sort of. I mean, we kind of dismissed in a way, but also that they had to come up underneath the tutelage of a male

And I had to share that story because one wonders whether Boston would have been Boston without this album cover. It was just an iconic album cover, even though she can't understand where that popularity comes from. I guess that happens with artists sometimes, but I'll post a link to some of her work here that she's done over the years. And I think she should definitely be mentioned with any artists of this century here

Wow, Phil, thanks for that. That's amazing. No, I didn't really. I think I've heard her name, but I didn't. I don't know anything about her. And I was just checking out the web a little bit about her, and she sounds like a really interesting person with her typography and everything that she's done in her work and also doing paintings, large paintings of maps. Wow. That is amazing

Hey, Holly. Thank you. I had not heard of Alma Thomas, but I did look at briefly the web on her. And it looks like she's an expressionist painter and an art educator. An abstract painter. Do you particularly have some experience with her? I'd be curious to know how she came up in your mind. Do you just know of her work, or have you studied under her? Or I'm curious. Would love to know more
When I was learning an art, it was just pay attention to the people we tell you about and don't look for anything else. So I'm glad you're doing this. Keep it up. Be as loud and as loud and proud as you want. Make sure they hear you and can't wait to see how this goes. Alright

The ones that come up for me are Faith Ringgold and Kara Walker as more contemporary women, female black artists. But there will be more. And these look like this list here that I have that I found briefly, name a few that I've never heard of. So yes, we will be exploring them all. And thank you so much for the suggestion. And perfect

Also, Bisa Butler is one of the ones the first or second one on the list. Here of the link I left and I follow her on Instagram. You can follow her. She's great. So take a look at her stuff

The one that comes to mind for me is Leonora Carrington. I like her Wacky style, you know, strange choices for things and that kind of stuff. It's kind of right off up my alley. So that's the first name that would jump out for me. Not that I'm very well versed on women in the art world, which is the point of this as well. So, yeah, yeah. I'm learning a few things here

I just got totally distracted. So I have to go back and watch it. But I'm so excited to see that I just had no idea it existed. So I'm very excited to go watch that. Thank you so much for posting and finding that it's amazing

And, man, this is great because also she reminds me of I'm trying to think of, oh, Dorothy Mayer, the photographer. That was kind of quirky. I don't know what it is looking at her pictures as far as what she looked like as a young woman and even into her old age, she reminds me of Louise Bourgeois and Dorothy Mayor. We'll be talking about them. Oh, my God

I think it's called I don't know if you've seen some of those, but you might want to look that up, but, yeah, I want to see this whole series I haven't seen at all. So it was new to me, too. Great. You got to see some of it and you'll be checking back in love it. I'm glad you liked it

I don't know exactly, but I think once a week is a good goal for now and then people can chime in over the week and give me thoughts or give me other ideas of what the artist or whatever the topic is that is being discussed, has resonated with them and maybe suggested for them to look into or something reminded them of another artist. So I really like this first cast and I appreciate everybody's input. The more the merrier here, take good care, everyone
