I said, she started talking about the Gullah people in St. Helena and how they have their own churches, and there's a rich history of Gullah, the black community in St. Helena. And I said, I've noticed when I walk downtown on the riverfront in Buford, I don't see any Gullah people. And Gullah people are known for weaving baskets, which there was a lady right across the street doing that across from her gallery

What a story. I love it. It's so beautiful to hear how you still keep in touch and send each other books and all that. It sounds like a really special friendship. And those unexpected ones are kind of the most beautiful ones, the most surprising and affirming of life and of putting yourself out there alone and trying new things. Yeah. And it's a shame that we here in America and across the world divide one another with skin color or where you grew up and blah, blah, blah. And you get together and realize how, like, you are, especially when you share things like art and books and the things that you love and music. Yeah, she has. Haven't been able to go the last two years, but, yeah, we keep in touch. She even buys paintings from me

And I went back every year except for the COVID year and I missed last year. I'm hoping to go this year, but every time I go, that one person introduces me to the next and the next and the next, and it's like a whole tribe of artists and writers and just people that get together and share valuable experiences and listen to good music, eat good meals
