#LessonsInChemistry | The role of humor in the novel

You? Well, I must say, I found this sort of technical lack of emotion approach of our lead character in the book refreshing because she was beautiful and brilliant. But she sort of had that on the spectrum quality of taking things at literal face value, which you don't see a woman doing very often as a character or in a storyline, and loved her, no nonsense, refreshingly blunt, doesn't care what other people think, attitude about everything in her life

I also was thinking about the parallel between her sense of humor and the dog's sense of humor. I think they were both kind of aligned in that way, kind of a little bit of a drab way of snarky. Not snarky, but just like the dog in itself was a humorous kind of foil. But the things that the author is kind to the dog in terms of thinking, we're kind of sort of the way Elizabeth thought a little bit, too
