Storytime: Me vs. the Raccoon in my Attic

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
So the wildlife people came, and they said, okay, we're going to try to run her out of here. And so they shined light. They played loud music. They did all the things. They sprayed coyote urine up there, because the smell of coyote urine is supposed to run them away. It makes them think that danger is close. Well, it didn't run her away

The goal is to just remove the raccoon away from your property and then release her back into the wild. That's the goal. And that was my goal. As annoying as I was with the whole situation, I didn't want her to die. I just want her gone. And so they ended up setting up what's called a kill trap. And so it was a big white bucket on my roof, as you can see in the picture

I had never encountered anything like that. I never had to deal with anything like that in the years I've lived in my house. And I promptly got everything repaired after that. But, man, it was just such a nightmare. I was just like, wow, I can't continue to live like this. Something's got to change. So, yeah, that was what happened. That's what happened. That was my nightmarish. Six weeks during the month of March and April of 2021

And then the next emotion is anger, because I feel like the wildlife people dropped the ball, I think. First of all, how did he didn't know she was pregnant. Pregnant and close to delivery. So if there's some sort of experts, they should have seen something, the signs or whatever

It. Wow. That was an experience. I listened in depth and I don't know a lot about Raccoons, but why didn't they just bring her baby back? I mean, if they were humane and didn't want to kill her, then maybe she would have left. But I'm just wondering I didn't hear that part of the story, so I was just wondering. Thank you

I'm curious about that part, too, Evelyn. I hope Tanya can fill us in on that part. I have a suspicion that that baby gone. That baby was gone. Either taking the baby out without his mother, they killed it or whatever. I don't know how they survive in the wild without their moms, but if they took them to a true wildlife refuge just bring the baby back, right? And maybe there's more I'm missing to it, but that baby probably gone

@DearAuntyAng

That's what I was thinking too. I thought maybe they euthanized it and because it couldn't survive without his mom. But then, too, on the other hand, I thought, well, if it's a wildlife refuge, they probably put it in a foster care system or something like that with other raccoons. Because I'm sure they had to deal with other raccoons in the past. However, I am awaiting Ms
