I don’t want to see the new ‘Color Purple’ movie

article image placeholderUploaded by @DearAuntyAng
I'm the first one to get ready to throw my shoe at somebody because they just singing so good. I'm here for it. But I don't like musicals on screen. They just don't translate well for me. And this could be whether it's the color purple musical, that musical that Lady Gaga had, that was all the rave a couple years ago, any musical, my fair lady, any of them, thumbs down to me

It's just that it's not a movie that speaks to me where I am now in my life. It just doesn't. So I don't feel the need to go see it. But thank you for your boldness and speaking out. I agree with you 100%. Thank you so much

And you can't make me feel less black because I don't want to see it. Because at the end of the day, it's a movie. An art can imitate life, and art can make you think, and it can cause movements to occur and all of that good stuff, it really can. But at the end of the day, most of what we see, especially produced, mass produced by Hollywood, is simply entertainment. And so it's not some deep meaning behind it

This is funny because we are all black and none of us wants to see this movie. This is crazy. It's crazy good, though, because it means that the general consensus is that it's just not that movie. It's not that important. Thank you for sharing this

So most of the time, I fast forward through the singing because I don't like the singing. I'm not watching a musical type person. That's just not me. I don't like watching musicals at all, and I'm a musical person, but it's just something about a movie that's supposed to be a movie, but it's got all this singing in it. I can't really get jiggy with it. Then today, I was just scrolling and saw something

I wasn't able to go on Broadway. I love Fantasia. She does an excellent job. And I know she was on Broadway, but I didn't get to go. I wasn't able to. So to be on screen, I think that benefits people who aren't able to pay for tickets for Broadway. And in my lifetime, when it was there, I wasn't able to. So this is going to give me a chance to be able to see it on screen

And so that whole you show is ugly. Gosh, that was so triggering to me. And so I didn't even mention that. And you're right, the movie was sad. Now, have I seen it a thousand times? Yeah. But I think that might even be speaking to a deeper level of how used some women are to trauma. Some people are used to trauma that we can watch it on the screen and it's like normal to us

I'm not a singer, but I've been in plays where we have musical numbers and the people that sang bring the house down. It's just not the same in a movie for me. I like that movie pass thing you were talking about. $20 a month and you can see three movies. That's good because we have something like that here. I don't know how much it is a month, but you get one ticket, but it does roll over

So I don't know what sound bite you put in or do they sing off camera, then they just, I don't know, filtered the sound on top of that, layered the sound on top of that. So it always sounds so artificial to me anyway. So, yeah, I'm not a big fan of the musicals and movies. For those that have the opportunity to go see it because they can't see it on stage, yeah, I'm here for it

Hey, thanks for responding. I get a clearer picture of what you were trying to say because I do agree that when they turn things that were serious into musicals, it kind of takes away from the aspect of the movie. And I really am one that believes that once it's been done, it can't be remade any better. No matter if it's a musical or if it's something serious, I don't think it can be redone any better

Now, there's been other movies, like, I don't know if nobody really talked about it, but George Foreman had a movie come out, and it wasn't really talked about. It wasn't really emphasized like it should have been, but it actually was a pretty good movie, you know what I mean?

At some point it's just entertainment, but at some point it can evoke emotion. And I'm not going to lie. What people want to put on the screen, I won't get too deep with it, but you know what I'm saying? There was a movie out and I can't think of the name. I think it was called. I think it was the sound of freedom. It's the movie about sex trafficking. Now, I'm going to be real with you

What's wrong with these young writers that are coming up? What's wrong with these young directors that may have something fresh? We need fresh and new. We don't need old and stale. Please spare us. My mind does not want to keep going on and on and on and on watching the same nonsense. Just like you said, the book was fantastic. Why? To me, every book is better? Because you do not have the director's point of view

And when it comes to color purple, I saw a, quote, a video of Taraji Hansen, and she was kind of like, why did we do this? And I'm with her because who asked for this? Like, whoever said we need a remake or we need the musical was so live, let's put it on. Let's make a movie out of it. Who's asking for this? Because nobody was. And unfortunately, it flopped in the theaters

And honestly, if you're first generation college grad, you just started getting a decent salary. You may even have loans. What do you even have to give back right before you can even enjoy it yourself and really build up some serious wealth, you're expected to distribute it to everybody else. Again, I'm a giver. It's a personal thing
