Deleting My Social Media: A time I wish I had not been impulsive...

article image placeholderUploaded by @DerekPierre
So this is pretty early on in its inception, right? Well, I remember I was getting a lot of exposure, I was getting a lot of likes, and I had this. This creative streak going, but I really didn't know what to do with it. And it was still very in its infancy. But I remember my mom text me one time, and she text me in response to something that I said on Twitter, and it freaked me out

I didn't have a response to your question, but I just had a comment to your post. I wanted to say that I love how you just express your authenticity and how you're so vulnerable and expressing something that you have done in the past, expressing your fears with that, and how you were able to reflect through the process and make appropriate decisions. Definitely mature thinking. Your authenticity is a power that is influential. So your posts are wonderful. So keep bringing them. Love them

Friends and followers mean nothing because people can share your stuff that you have no clue who they are. So you can't even say, well, it's only my friends that see this. Nah, no such thing. And so it could be very like, wait, I'm exposing myself to literally everyone. And of course, with that comes good and bad. And so I don't blame you for saying, nah, let me shut it down

So I'm very grateful that I have a space like swell to be able to come and do that, but more so, I'm grateful that I have you in my corner and that you're able to respond to these kind of things and encourage me to keep going, because knowing that the reception from being authentic makes it that much easier to show up and do this. So thank you. And I honestly can't tell you how much I appreciate you for that

I can think critically, but I still find myself getting caught up in the algorithm of it all, where, you know, you start to realize that your sense of validation starts to come from how many likes, how many views, how many shares without even thinking, you know, when I was getting to that point where I was getting that kind of attention, and my mom, like, chimed in on something, my grandmother commented on, something I said one time, and she was like, I could do with less profanity
