Hello and good evening everyone. As promised, I will see you there today at five in the evening and here I am with Vani, the author of a romantic thriller seconds later. But before we directly dive into the conversation, allow me to take a moment to introduce Vani. Vani is an international author, journalist and a popular columnist. She took a plunge into the world of fiction writing after working as a business journalist for leading newspapers like the Times of India and the Financial Express

My next book was published in the United States. That was nonfiction. And this one, seconds later, which I'm super excited about. This was published in 2021. This one is the story of a girl who thinks she can handle fame, not knowing that fame doesn't come easy, that there's a price to pay. So I've been promoting this for two years now. It's got amazing reviews. A lot of them have come from celebrities

So first of all, I wish you congratulations on your book once again. And yes, now I'm quite excited to ask more about your book. So talking about the character of your book, Nikita, she appears to be a beloved public figure, right? So how does her popularity and the status play a role in the narrative? And right at the beginning of the book, she is stabbed by a fan. How does this incident affect those who knew her already?

And then you've asked me, like, right at the beginning of the book, nikita, she's stabbed by a fan. How does that incident affect those who knew her? Well, that sort of sets up the whole story, because it is from there that the story looks back at how the events unfolded in Nikita's life. And what I've tried to do is I've set up the scene

This sounds so intriguing vani. And rather than finding who did it, why it was done. Now, this sounds like a purpose driven approach, and definitely, if anything happens with someone, it is important to know the purpose. That why it has been done so. Quite an interesting and intriguing line. Now, talking about the blur but also so suggests that Nikita is lying next to her killer. Can you provide some insights into this mystery?

And I have looked at the story from the perspective of all these four people. And the story unfolds gradually. And I have tried to build enough suspense in the story. There's enough meat to keep the story going. Like, this happens, and this happens, and this happens. So it unfolds gradually. There is suspense at every page. Everybody in the story. There are four key stakeholders in the story. Everybody has a stake

So the memory of Nikita, let's talk about that. The memory of Nikita is mentioned as she searches for the answers. Can you discuss the use of memory and the perspective in the storytelling? So how does it contributes towards the building of the suspense portion in your book?

So that being said, I would say memory is a very interesting tool and as you know that writers like to play around with it. But when we specifically look at crime fiction, and which is what this is, second Slater is crime fiction, you can also call it romantic thriller. It's very interesting how you can use memory and perspective to present facts to the reader. And that's what makes all the difference. Like, if you are specifically writing crime fiction, whose perspective are you using?

How did you approach the developing characters? And seconds later, because every new character, every new narration, new description, new personality traits because bifurcating and showcasing the differences in human nature. This is what makes every character stand out. So what were the difficulties that you faced and how did you approach the character development in your novel?

And yet you might find that a writer who is comfortable using swear words and all, you might see a lot of swearing happens in books because fiction writers are very comfortable with it and they show anger and hate and all those high emotions by giving their characters such dialogues. But then my internal compass doesn't allow that. And yet the challenge for me is that I have to show them in not so nice in a darker light, which kind of makes it difficult for me

And absolutely when it comes to writing the characters, it is important to observe every minute detail and share different aspects, their approaches with the audience, so that they understand and resonate with the audience any one quality that makes a particular character stand out. So firstly, thank you for that. And before moving forward to the last question, firstly I would like to thank you for being such a wonderful guest and sharing so much about your book, about your author journey

Do your work in such a way that it adds value to your and other people's lives. And work honestly every day. If you don't want to work, it's fine, but if you do work, be honest with your work. Be passionate about it because it's something that's been given to you. And if you're able to be honest and passionate, then a lot will follow into your life from there. And that's one of the reasons why I turned to writing
