#thecheckin: Ep. 28 - Lily Gladstone, and the issues of modern, White feminism

It should have been told and directed by a native american person. And for all my love in the world. For Martin Scorsese, I 100% agree with the sentiment of that should have been a story that could have been told by a native american person. It's honorable that he did it, but we are not to shun a person feeling that a person from said community should have handled their own story

Lily is the favorite to win Best Actress at the Oscars. Ultimately, thats more important than anything Barbie has to offer as a brand or film.๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽž๏ธ

And don't get me wrong, they were good movies, but it's always the gangster mentality or the rotten cop or the woman that's taking off all her clothes and doing something that she shouldn't be doing as a black woman that gets recognized for an know. Halle Berry has done some wonderfully done work that she should have got an Oscar for before, and so has Denzel Washington. That man has got a portfolio, or a filmography portfolio as long as the block

@LadyFi Rainchecks, identity and business in cinema

For all intents and purposes, if you go back and study his career, from 1990 all the way till the launch of training Day in 2001, he had several roles that were in that pocket of time where you just knew he should have been nominated. At the very least, even if he didn't win, he should have got nominated. A prime example of it is, of course, Malcolm X. I think we always go to that one

@LadyFi Race, "firsts," and the culture if color

And I just unfortunately don't think they would have given a budget to an indigenous person to be able to justifiably tell their story the way it should have. Because ultimately, the film's quality comes down to how much money you have. No matter how creative we get, you will always hit a wall where if we had a little bit more money, we'd be able to do more and do the story justice

But you, sir, are very good in analyzing Hollywood, analyzing movies, the reason why they make the movies, the budget and stuff behind the movies, and really the reasoning as to why you feel or see that they feel the way that they. So I'm really, really grateful because it gave me another way to look at Denzel. I've always loved him, and now I'm just not going to fault him anymore for a training day
