Black and Brown History Everyday: Effa Manley and Baseball

Now, after the war, integration of Major League Baseball became a hot button issue, and the color line was actually broken in 1946 when branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson to play for Montreal, the Dodgers Triple A international League team. That year was a good year for the Manleys and the Eagles, too, because Newark beat the Kansas City Monarchs in a thrilling seven game negro league World Series. Robinson broke into the major leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and integration started happening

So I have a lot, a lot of respect for her for that. And to get eleven players inducted, that's major. It's a hell of an accomplishment, because the Major League baseball, the hall of Fame, has very high standards. When they vote on whether a player should be in the hall of Fame, 75% of the writers have to agree that a player is worthy of induction. So eleven is significant

Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I tried to just, you know, tell it like it is, but I do enjoy learning, just like you guys learn. I learned, too. So I'm very, very grateful that you listen. And it doesn't matter if you late for the party, as long as you get there, right? So thank you so much for coming in, for listening. I really appreciate
