What do you think the attention span of Swell is when you listen to audio
Yeah. There are those extenuating circumstances or certain situations where we do need more time to really communicate fully what we're trying to say. But for the most part, pretty much I think that if we are maybe thoughtful about what we're saying or doing our very best to be good communicators in what we're saying, we can shorten it down in under five minutes

Let's say, with podcast, they say the average attention span for listening to a podcast is between ten to 15 minutes or 15 to 20 minutes, sometimes 15 to 30 minutes. That's even less on Swell. I honestly feel maybe the first 15 seconds that's all the time you have. So if you're not able to get your point off or to make it seem interesting, you need to retool and rework. And that's what Swell is great for. You can do this
Exactly like if a group of us were hanging out, having a conversation in person and someone regularly went on and on like they suddenly changed us from being active participants to being a captive audience. And you can't really escape in person. When that happens, they just keep going and you're stuck so your mind will wander. But you really can't get up and leave with Swell. That's different. You can get up and leave. But the bottom line is the conversation suffers for it

Everyone is saying a bunch of stuff, so you've got to be able to make sure that you say your stuff in a considerable amount of time so that you can be in someone's mind for a little while, at least. So yeah, I'm totally on board with that turtle
You know, attention span of a goldfish squirrel. Anyway, I hope these images now you spoon your toothpaste all over the mirror, and I play one highly amusing. Oh, I'm easily today
Once upon a time, I had a very cluttered desk, and a family member suggested to me that maybe we could add some more table space here, but also made the point of reminding me that if I did add this space that my clutter was going to grow and expand onto that space, and from that point of view, then I really didn't want that extra space, even though initially I thought I did

In the past, my podcasting was not just podcasting for me, but it was also a social audio app for me, and that's where things got confused for me. Division was created. All that sort of stuff so swell kind of became like a companion piece in a way. But after a while it just became its own thing for me. So you can say that I had to

You have like, maybe what, three accounts on Swell that you actively use. You go in between them at times to make posts, and then on top of that, you use Moxie, you use Clubhouse, you use stereo, you use a lot of different apps, and I'm guessing for you this is so comfortable and natural for you to be in so many different realms

@NealD · 2:38
But to just get a point across, you could probably do it in under five minutes. Does this app need to be longer than five minutes? I don't know. Again, you can try to gather your thoughts in five minutes can seem like a long time when you're recording into a phone. So this is kind of a new thing here. And I think the art of conversation is kind of lost with all of the technology. And I sound like an old man

I don't have an ego. Maybe it's not, but I think it's good, but I'm just getting one or two responses. I don't know if other people are experiencing that or they're getting more, but I'm just struggling really with getting people to participate in my posts, which is kind of frustrating, but hopefully it will change
Dewuan .
@FryedOreo · 4:41
That is not really a problem after all this time. And you're right. In real life, you have conversations longer than five minutes with people you love and care about, or even just something you find intriguing. I think the caveat here is that a lot of people who use these sort of platforms, also, they podcast, or they use other platforms like this
Neal Damiano
@NealD · 2:18
And Deborah did reach out to me and wanted to feature me as a film critic on here, and we had a lovely conversation about film, but I will continue to try to get more followers and create more interesting content and see where this goes. But I'm enjoying myself if I get two or three or four responses is fantastic

We're just so zoned in on our phones and looking for any kind of visual stimulation that we're kind of spectators. It's a spectator culture now got to get in the game, man. So I just stopped doing the podcasts. I don't want to say I quit, but I kind of took a break from them because it's a constant letdown
Dewuan .
@FryedOreo · 2:08
It's growing ever so slightly, but you'll notice that it's kind of like a really small community here. Small gated community in some ways. So you'll kind of bump into the same people more often than not. But yeah, I'm guessing you're getting, like, flashbacks of what the podcasting experience was like for some degree
Neal Damiano
@NealD · 3:03
No, I'm kidding here, but I get a lot of followers that read my reviews and my top ten film lists and my articles on Top Ten Films, which is a pretty big film website out of the UK. And if you're interested, go to top the number Tenfilms co. Uk. And if you go into the drop down menu, you could see my name there and contributing there. And you could see all my top ten film lists and my articles dealing with movies and stuff
Neal Damiano
@NealD · 2:19
I'm over all these platforms that people just want to laugh at, you know, excuse my language, D*** Joe and f****** cat videos and just, like, have no feedback initiative whatsoever, and it's just complacency, and I'm tired of it and whatever. I'm still going to post if I get zero responses. Oh, well, good riddance. But I thank you for your support, and I thank you for your follow
Dewuan .
@FryedOreo · 5:00
And I already told you this. Just keep doing whatever it is that you enjoy doing. But also, this is another caveat. Get in the conversation with other people and also learn to kind of diversify your stuff. So yes, you're adamantly into film. So like, the last things you mentioned are about film, right? And there's nothing wrong with that
Shahnaz Ahmed
@bookishpodcast · 3:17
Neil, I'm not a film person, okay? I'm a book person, so right there, it's not that I haven't looked at your content. I mean, I have not, but it's because of film. It has nothing to do with your content. I mean, I could be, like, while Neil, you're not looking at my content. Well, why would you if you're not into books, then why would you look at my content? Right?
Dewuan .

I think it's a testament to collaboration and conversation that makes Swell such a great app in comparison to a lot of the other apps that I've been on, where the objective is really just to promote and plug your latest thing and leave the platform. And here it's almost taboo to promote yourself. I guess maybe in some ways you do promote yourself, but it just is more of an indirect sort of nature. And in regards to other post
So all of this applies, even outside of the realm of social media, you need to grab people's attention. And also some people are better at the spoken word. Some people are better at writing. Some people are better with the visual, with the photography. And yes, Neil, people are out there, and all they want to do is absorb information, not give back. Maybe they're not comfortable doing that. There aren't many people

When someone has energy, I'm like, yes, give me more. And you could sense that. And if the energy is lower, I guess for me, I'm more of a fast paced. So it's kind of like, okay. Okay, come on. I can't sit here and wait ten minutes for the next word. So I think there is that element to swell also, and it's also the content. And what are you putting out?
Dewuan .
@FryedOreo · 4:29
So in terms of the interest and intrigue and all that good stuff, it's a cruel world out here. There's no nice way to say it. No one is going to hold your hand through this process. We otherwise like to give helpful tips on how to maximize the potentiality of receiving engagement, but that really is all up to you and up to your audience because we all have different audience that we placate to, that we feel more comfortable around some folks
Neal Damiano
@NealD · 1:26
Joe DeMillo. I hope I'm pronouncing that right. Thank you for the advice. I guess it's advice and input, and I'm just replying back to you as of my pre part in your thread, there no, I understand social media. I'm on social media platforms, and it's my choice. And I use that to promote my films. And I'm just creating content on here and just feeling it out
Neal Damiano
@NealD · 2:30
All right, Joe, I'm geared toward a specific market, but film is universal. I don't know many people who do not watch movies, and you have film lovers, and that's what I'm targeting. And I'm just creating content on here for people that are film buffs. So I understand that. And I'm going to get replies from people that are into film. I realize all of this
