Would Van Halen Been As Big Without David Lee Roth?

article image placeholderVan Halen Album Debuted On This Day In 1978
And I saw a note on one of the websites I follow that today is the day on this day that Van Halen dropped their debut album and it was titled Van Halen. And I was thinking about it. I was in high school early high school, and I just remember how big other group was because I went to a mixed high school and how big Van Halen was to the masses because they were so different

I believe when MTV came about and we had videos and we really saw other videos and it was all David Lee in those videos and just pushed Van Halen to the top and everything, I think they would have been very successful just because of their musical talents and the guitar of Eddie and everything. But I think what drove them over the top, both in popularity and commercial success, says, was David Lee Roth

I think DLR maxxed the success.

Now that didn't end up happening. And I recall that they thought that Eddie could carry the band regardless. And I think there's some truth to that. And I think they still would have been successful. Now the question is, would they have been as successful? And I like, you kind of dropped off when Tommy Hagar actually did replace David Lee Roth. So I'm first thinking that, no, I don't think so

Hello. Hey, we discussed David Lee Roth with Van Halen. But today being the day before Valentine's Day, in 1970, Black Sabbath debuted their album with Ozzy Osbourne as the lead singer. So we can continue the discussion on groups with lead singers with Black Sabbath had been a success without Ozzy Osborne. And I believe Ozzy Still, today is just as much as an influencer and star as he was back in the early days there

Hey, you know, interesting. You mentioned that because I think if that whole legend of Aussie biting the head off the bat hadn't occurred, heard, he could have possibly been toast. But after he did that man, he secured his legacy in Rock forever. He became the thing. So I just think he was so crazy, man. Crazy Train was right because I think people considered him so nuts. That kind of secured his legacy

So I was a big fan of David Lee Roth, and I remember watching his videos on MTV when I was a kid, when he started doing his solo stuff with like, Yankee Rose. And the videos were just hilarious, man. They just cracked me up as a kid and I couldn't wait for them to come on MTV. So yeah, I was a Roth guy, and I went back and listened to that first Van Halen album and what a great album
