Self-sufficiency or more globalization?

So I guess what I'm asking is why go back to a point of domestic reliance when the whole world is available at our fingertips, especially in a post pandemic world? Shouldn't we be more free with our trade are in a different, twisted way? Has it taught us a lesson to be more self sufficient? Let me know what you guys think. Cheers

Very interesting question you posed there. I kind of struggle with coming up with an answer from either side for this. The only observation I would like to make is that globalization works really well when we can put our differences aside and work together, period. Sadly, there are enough forces in this world that are connivingly divisive, or rather, if I want to phrase it correctly, divisive for the purpose of being divisive and out of that, we have separations. And sometimes selfsufficiency really helps

#supplychain

You have to ask yourself, what products do you want to build, what products do you want to buy and the ones that you choose to build as a country you need to own? I believe the entire supply chain just like a technology company, kind of I mean, almost maybe not the operating system and maybe not the actual language itself, but the rest of the stack. Pretty much they over time, build the whole stack and upgrade whatever the product is meant to do

So that's the one area that I've been struggling with, and I kind of lean towards nationalization of those specific roles. And right now I'm just thinking of PPE and Pharmaceuticals, but everything else. I'm just a huge globalist. And David Ricardo is one of the economists that I really kind of adhere to. I'm and if you read anything from him, he was pretty profound for writing in the 17 hundreds

But that said, I think in not just an ideal but sort of normal world where nations are respectful of each other and everybody's strive towards general progress. I think even the question of PPE and Pharmaceuticals should have worked out. I think it's just unfortunate that we find ourselves in these dire Straits because of combination of the particular political situation and the current combination of our world leaders and where we have gotten that PPE was in demand artificially, at least that's my opinion
