Buying a Horse this week

article image placeholderScreenshot_20201026-085446_Dropbox.jpg
Good morning and welcome to The Week this week, I wanted to take you on a little journey with me. I am looking to buy a horse this week. So in addition to working in the morning, I'll be getting up and going to look at at horses. So wanted to take you with me and show you what goes into actually buying a horse. So I am in Kentucky. I flew to Kentucky last night and I am set to go this morning to go look at one year old

Or as my teacher would say, there are no stupid questions. Okay. So is the expectation here when you are buying a horse that that horse will win you money, or is the expectation here that you're basically taking on a hobby that requires a lot of love and time and effort, and the result doesn't necessarily matter now, I obviously know there's going to be some people that definitely say I'm spending money to make money, and that's your right

She's just in a little bit of a trot right now, going around. And when she gets off the track, we'll see how hard she's breathing here. And here she comes around the first time. And we're going to see if you can hear it the first time around there, the exercise rider was talking about how she saw a couple of horses in the distance and kind of wanted to take off after him. But we have a very experienced exercise rider here

Hey, Taylor, thanks for the question. And you know, your teachers were right. There is no such thing as a dumb question. But anytime I used to ask a question, they always would say, Well, I didn't think you were going to ask that, but no, every there is no such thing think is a dumb question. Here with horse racing, it is a very nuanced, very detailed business, and I am happy to talk about it because I love it

And he, of course, has to drop an assault. He's talking. But that was him holding court. And he's a storyteller. He's a great storyteller. And whenever he's talking, you can hear people laughing. And that was on cue. We heard that he's telling the story. People start laughing. That's Dale Romans

Phil, thanks for explaining that. And it's pretty darn obvious. How much do you love what you're doing and you love your horses? I had a friend growing up. This is my only exposure to equestrianism, but I had had a friend growing up that I don't know what the technical term is for it, but she would ride horses and they would vault fences. So you know what that is. But I don't know what the name is. You could probably tell me

I mean, these guys, they're going to go down to the turf at some point and possibly get trampled those steeple chase. If you ever meet a steeplechase jockey, do not mess with that person. They are the biggest outlaws. I know a lot of jockeys on thoroughbreds, and even they say the same thing. They're just like, yeah, don't mess with those guys. Those guys are just insane. But you are right about one thing

Robyn, your daughter was looking at I don't know if she was actually looking at acquiring a horse, but depending on what state she's in, I can probably connect her with somebody that runs retired racehorses, and they're always looking for people for them to have a good home. And they'll vet the person out pretty well to make sure that they will have a good home. But they're always looking for somebody that will adopt a racehorse
