Boxing: Lomachenko vs Lopez A Must See Bout!

article image placeholderVasiliy Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez Jr. fight predictions: Undercard, odds, expert picks, date
And when you see Loma Cenko in training, it's just amazing. You can just see how much athleticism he really does have. And this guy is something special. He really is. Now boxing wouldn't be boxing unless you entertain that younger, hungrier guy that has power on the up and rising. And that's TIO Lopez. This guy, he's younger, he's very hungry. He's trained by his father

To be honest, I don't they're matching them pretty good so far, because after all, he has not had a lot of fights as talented as he is. And he is talented. But he has not had a lot of fights. So I'm going to really hold off reserve my judgment because I just think to me, I say, Well, what if I put him back in the air of the Pernells and the Melbourne tailors?

Yeah. Mto I'm not willing to compare this guy to past guys at all, not even close. I do think he's just a fantastic athlete. I think he's one of the better boxers boxing today, but, I mean, you raise a good point of it. The pools. I think we've talked about it, but the pools are just so thin that there's not a lot of guys to fight. And he's already in his third division

Yeah. To be honest, Phil, you know, the only two guys he can fight to really prove that he's that guy is Crawford or Spence. That's it. And I'm like you. I don't I think he gets is smashed in both of them. So I don't see him winning either of those fights. But you never know that's why they had a fight. He is talented. But like I said, I just feel like he's a little over hyped

That like you said, the pool isn't there for him to have great fights to make him a great so maybe never know for saying that. Another one to add to those lists of lightweights that went up. Floyd Mayweather was a lightweight, right? At one point. I think he was even a featherweight, wasn't he? Floyd Mayweather? Yeah, he was, I'm sure. And he went up to Welter, right. And he didn't go past there

Yeah. I forgot to reply to Prince Nassim. You know, I didn't think about it, but I think you're right. I think it's a very similar kind of fighter. And the one similarity that I think that they both have is just balance. And I don't know if you remember, but Prince, he could throw a haymaker right on purpose and purposely miss to set up a left hook coming. And it appeared that he was off balance, but he was perfectly on balance

If there's a junior high fight out of South Africa, this guy has got it on. He knows when and where to get everything. He is a pro. He's found fights that at the time. What's his face? The Dan Raphael couldn't find. So he was supplying fights to ESPN just off the cuff, guys. Incredible. I'm putting the I'm putting the link to him right here and I'm sure he'll be posting where to find it

Thanks, Phil. I followed him. I looked and he followed me back, which is cool. So maybe I asked him as well if he knows the best place to watch it because I'm thinking now I usually love staying up for fights, but it's been a bit of a hard time recently. I'm not sure I'm going to stay up for this one

@wazeeda @Phil Lomachenko for me!

Zid, I'm going to take her here. She knows her boxing man, and we usually always chat about the fights and beforehand. And usually if we're both staying up, we would be messaging each other all the way through the fine Snapchat or whatever, but these not sure she's going to watch it. She's just getting home, I think, for work. So let's see. Either way, I'm going to tag you. Let me know what you think

That's when we see what type of fighter you really are. When you're in there with somebody who's determined to win and take your head off, they are not scared of you

Lopez timing really impressed me

You know, about the 6th. After the 6th round, I remarked that I was wondering if the Lomachenko corner was going to tell him that the fight actually started. He's notoriously a slow start, Carter, but wow. I mean, that was six rounds of him not being able to figure out Lopez at all, not being able to get off. And I credit Lopez for everything. He came in with a game plan. He looked to be the bigger guy and acted like the bigger guy

I think it was I don't know if it was Teddy Atlas or somebody, but they had said that he was the best boxer he had ever seen, even including Muhammad Ali. And they said that early in his career, I'm like, come on, man. Can't we just stop trying to compare everybody to just let the person be themselves and quit trying to put that pressure on them to be the next Ali or the next sugar? A Leonard, just be yourself

You've got to take your hat off to Lopez

Hey, guys, I just watched the fight, and I wondered, I agree with all your comments, but I don't see it going like this. I made I put myself out there and said, yeah, I think that Lemochenko is going to win. And I hadn't seen too much of Lopez, but I thought he was going to get in there and find out that Lemochenko is just way too skilled. But you're right. I noticed the same thing

Well, Roy was not so much a pit Bull, but he was just so supremely talented. But with most fighters with that type of style, they don't have chins. They don't have chins. That's why they box that way because they can't really take a punch. And that's just the way it is because, in my opinion, as a martial artist, in my opinion, there are only two types of fighters in the world. Offensive fighters and defensive fighters

Age at lower weight classes and no rematch for me

But for the most part, those divisions are young guys. Divisions always kind of have been from what I can just think of. And Mark, as far as a rematch, I'm just not interested in a rematch at all. When I think of a rematch, I think of a very close fight, and with a lot of close rounds, I could have gone either way. But this guy gave away the first seven rounds, and I don't think that Loma Cenko lost his fight

You're going to beat your brains out because the speed is just too much and you lose too much of that. So you're right in that aspect. But, Lomanchenko, he hasn't lost none of that. He hasn't lost no speed or nothing. None of that. The only thing we witnessed last night was just a guy that wanted to beat his a**. That's the first guy. He thought that you could see it in him

Great amateur but pro is a different game

Yeah. Part of the overhype is just you have a sport that's pretty much devoid of a lot of superstars. After Floyd, I'd say Canelo Alvarez. I'd probably put him ahead of Tyson Fury, especially in Mexico sico, where he's just absolutely huge. But he can draw a lot of pay per view buys, which I don't know that there's a lot of boxes that can do that at all. He's one of them that can do it, which is really surprising
@Phil

And we haven't talked about it. But I thought Lomachenko had a great 11th round, and I thought that Lopez might have been fading a little bit. I was watching him like, oh, he's in deep waters here. He's being drugged into waters. He hasn't been to before. And then what can you say about Lopez's 12th round? That was just that's a career defining round right there. After I thought he might be tired

His 25th amateur fight was his gold medal win at the Olympics. But that's because he could fight better than most guys could box. It didn't matter. But usually the guys that depend on that type of style, they have to have a high amount of amateur fights. They have to because they really have to kind of master that s*** because if you can't really fight and you're just a half a** boxer, you're queued
@Mtwadamela
Mtwadamela Ijogo
@Mtwadamela · 3:09
Yeah, and that's what I meant. See, it was two things that happened when Lomanceko lit him up a little bit, and then the next round, the very beginning. The first thing Lopez did, the very first thing he did was give him a hard shot, like, boom, just like, no, don't even attempt to come in here. I'm still the boss

I agree

Yeah, I have to agree. You know, don't get me wrong. I'm no Lamachenko fan. I thought he was good. I liked his style before. You know, like you said, he's a good boxer. But you're talking about my two favorite fighters of all time, Ali and Sugar Leonard. And both of those could fight. They could fight. Floyd Mayweather could fight, he could box and fight, and all the greats can do that. That's true
@Mtwadamela

He's not going to allow you to sit back and he's going to sit back and let you just compose yourself and pick your shots. He's going to get off first, and he's going to make you commit to either defending yourself or you're going to have to get off first. So he was beating him to the punch and he stayed aggressive on him. I'm not sure. I mean, you said Floyd Mayweather can fight. I don't know
