Professional wrestling (Is the word fake dated?)

And I want to talk about the word because if we can confess that professional wrestling is an art form, if we can confess, we we we we we know professional wrestling is predetermined. Professional wrestling is a pseudosport. There is a word that's been with the sport of professional wrestling that's kind of hung over it since the beginning, the Carnival days, the 1950s, even. And that's the word fake

We know professional wrestling is predetermined and set up. Does that truly matter? What are your thoughts on the word fake as a buzzword?

But boxing also doesn't have the outfits and the personalities and the backstage little mini brawls and getting in your face and all that. It has a more believable element to it rather than professional wrestling is the word fake some very creative liberties at some point. So I think it's just a matter of picking a different word to associate with it one that is more accurate rather than one that's simply just common and people are familiar with. So they just use it regardless of what it actually means

You make some excellent points

Knowing What I Know based on some of the stories that wrestlers have shared in a podcast, the idea of wrestling being fake and having the stigma to some people of being fake bothers me in the same way or bothers me because we know a movie is fake or we know a story that's being told in a book is fake. Unless, of course, it's a biography or an autobiography or something like that

Hey, Peter. Hey, Jason. I think Jason brings up some good points. People just sort of throw around words these days, not really using them correctly. And there's no doubt that that wrestling is scripted. But to call it fake, I think is just when people do that, it speaks to just a lack of understanding of what exactly it is they're talking about. I grew up watching WCWS, and eventually the WWE

I actually sat next to MC Foley on an airplane once, too, and I actually sat next to him the day that Mr. Fuji died and talked about that. So Taylor had mentioned Mr. Fuji. I'm sorry mentioned McFolley, so I had to mention that. And I have to mention, back in my time, there was still kind of that question out of whether wrestling was, quote, fake or real. And I used to love to try and convince my parents it was real

Thanks for adding to the conversation :-) @Phil

So Paul is very much installed into the idea of making sure the future of the professional wrestling business is strong and NXT and his new organization is his baby. I think the only way that Vince McMahon is going to give up the WWE is when he passes because he's that passionate about the business. And I think that Paul plans on running things in WWE until he's about running things in WWE NXT until he's about 65. And then I think he plans on retiring from the game

But I just found out recently that my favorite soccer team in the world, and Phil knows this Arsenal FC. I'm beyond obsessed with them. They actually have been using Triple H's entrance music lately for their matches, so I thought that was really cool, and he was actually asked about it during an interview, so I wanted to link it here. He seems like a really well put together businessman now, which I got to say 20 years is I would not have seen coming

I think he's always been that way. And Peter, yeah, talking to MC Foley about Mr. Fuji was something that was kind of surreal. And as I remember Mr. Fuji, he just took cheating to an art form. And what I mean by that is he would obviously cheat. Of course, the referee would not see it

Mr. Fuji was a legend for sure :-) @Phil

Phil, the thing about Mr. Fuji, too, is he would do things in the locker room outside of the business when, you know, the guys weren't wrestling that were just notorious ribs. He was a notorious is for that. Oh, man. He would do stuff that was like, you couldn't get away with it today. He would do things that were, yeah, all kinds of harassment and things of that nature. It would just not be politically correct today at all
