What is the first concert you attended? What musical venue did you see the concert at? Is the venue still around?

article image placeholderAlbum art
What's up out there in Swell cast it's Neil D back again with another segment. And lately I've been on a music kick. So my question today is what's the first concert you ever attended was you two, the Joshua Tree tour. Back in 1987. I was twelve years old. Me and my brother went to the New Haven Coliseum to see you two. And it was jam packed

Talking first concerts: What band or singer was your first live concert? What do you remember most about the experience? #firstconcert

Yo, what's up, Neal? This is a really great question. And pretty cool that you too, is your first concert. Mine is a silly answer, and it's because I went when I was maybe, I don't know, six or seven years old. My aunt and my mom. Com had acquired, like, eight Row Center Staples Center tickets to see in Sync store. I believe it was the no Strings Attached tour

I went for the Pink Floyd concert with my dad. And somewhere I think in the middle of the concert, I was right in front and my dad put me on his shoulders and I was weaving and I got very close to the stage. And David Gilmore, the guitarist. I managed to get somewhere close to him and he saw me and he smiled and gave me a high five. And that changed my life. I think I talked about that story for the next ten years

But I grown to appreciate more over the years because I grew up liking the more, like, post punk stuff. That's what I grew up with. Listening to, like, first wave alternative like The Smiths, The Cure, that kind of gloomy, bullshit stuff with synthesizers and stuff like that. Because that's what I grew up with on MTV. And I saw a lot of those bands in concert. But, I mean, I like all different kinds of genres of music

That's one of my favorite songs. What a beautiful song that is. And you're a fan Karan. So obviously, you know that song. But I've always loved that song. It's such a beautiful written, soothing song. High Hopes. So, yeah, I'm a big Pink Void fan. That's a cool memory Dan to have, like with your other as well. Pink Floyd rocks. I think they're still going. I think they're still torn

So I was still learning to drive when Suzanne Vega came to Minster and I completely loved her Solitude Standing album. So my mother had to drive me there to this hall, a convention hall, more or less for I would say 4000 people. And the middle was completely seated, which is unusual in Germany. Normally in the middle, you have standing area, and there's a real big atmosphere coming up, but not what's Suzanne bigger. So I was seated there and two rows ahead of me

Thanks for sharing your story. I love Suzanne Vega. What a great musician and songwriter. I've been listening to her for years. Left Other Center, one of my favorite songs. It's on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack. And it's a great song. So thanks for sharing that. Bye

James Brown...smh

I'm talking about Contact High smokefilled Room or arena where I had no idea what the h*** was going on. It was just loud and a whole lot of smoke because we were at the top. And if you went to late Seventies, mid 70s shows back in the day, man, if you were at the top, you got high as head. L because the smoke was rising. So it was James Brown. Contact High Atlanta. The Omni still remember it's

U2 with Oasis opening act in Oakland coliseum

Hey, Neil. So I moved to the US in 96 to study here. And in 97, I was doing an internship in the Bay Area, and a bunch of us went to watch YouTube in their PopMart tour into Oakland Coliseum. That was my first kind of legitimate US concert, and I was lucky enough that the opening act for that concert was OSS. So we got to hear OSS. And obviously the YouTube experience was amazing

That's quite a story, Tommy. I bet you didn't realize at the time because you were a kid that you're seeing one of the most influential musician singers in the history to see James Brown. That must have been amazing. Hopefully you were old enough to appreciate it, which I'm probably sure you were. But man, to see that guy dance and shake around on stage. Must have been amazing. So thanks for sharing that story, brother. Bye

Wow, Arish, that must have been an amazing concert because I'm a huge Dan of Oasis as well. And to see them two bands together, live must have been phenomenal, because I know you too, is amazing live. So to see them with Oasis double billed must have been a fantastic concert. And it sounds like a cool venue too. So, man, good on you for seeing both of those bands. Oasis is a great band. I so many great tunes

Any. Yes. Os is a great band, and I think that was before they became super popular. So I think that they were still doing opening gigs at that time. I guess so it was lucky to have them kind of open up for you too. And the funny thing is, in 2019 October, I went and watched the who. I think they were on their retirement tour or the Geometrician Tour or whatever it was. And I've always been a big fan of the who

Smokey Robinson in Manchester, England

Hi. I really enjoyed listening to You Talk About you, too, because they are one of my favorite bands. I've loved them since 1987, but I had to wait until last year, two years ago to see they're M for the first time in Croak Park in Dublin. My mom took me and it was just amazing. And I got chills and I cried. I admit it, I did cry, but talking, talking, talking, talking, talking. First concerts, what band?

@dandell WOW!!!

Wow, Danielle. You know, I don't know that anybody has ever had a better first concert ever in the history of music. I mean, that is just absolutely unbelievable. I mean, it's it's pretty amazing to have Smokey Robinson as your first concert, but to actually meet him and on top of that, have him sing My girl. I don't know that that can be topped. That is just about the best story I've ever heard for a first concert ever

Sammy Hagar at the Marin Civic Center with my older, mortified, brother

Hey, everyone. Christina here. My first concert was a Sammy Hagar concert that he was playing at at the Marin Civic Center. And my older brother had to take me. He was mortified and pretended he didn't know me. But it was a great concert. I remember it vividly and Ironically, I see a lot of folks. You two was their first concert. I went to a concert. I think it was Pat Travers, and you two opened for them

And I do remember in the middle of the concert, I forget what song it was. He had a bottle of Jack Daniels and drank it from other straight. And then he ended pulling the rest of it out on whoever was in the first couple of rows there. So Augusta, Richmond County Civic Center, Lover Boy, circa 1981. Great question

Wow, Dandel. Quite an amazing story. First off, you two has always been one of my favorite College radio bands. I've been listening to them since around 87. Two. The Joshua Tree album is what got me into them when I was about twelve years old. And I remember seeing the videos on MTV With Or Without You. And then I went and discovered their back catalog. And I also love War album and boy. So the earlier you too. I really like

I always remember that video where they're in the hotel room, having a party, and everybody's working for the weekend. Those two songs were always on MTV in the 80s. A lot of hits from those guys. And they're probably amazing lives. So yeah, I'm right there with you, man. I'm a fan of Lover Boy as well
