A Libertarian’s Idea for Police Reform

But in order to prevent the climbing number of bad things that happen, such as police brutality, I think that we need to do something now to curb that and to put a stop to it. I would say that even people in the right wing would agree that there are a lot of police officers out there that are brutal, that should not be on the force. But they claim that there is not a reliable way that we can identify those officers and remove them or train them

Right now, I watched a brief I think it was Vice documentary that I'll link here if I can find it. And then I think on top of that, there needs to be some sort of discussion that takes place about the very important need for a system of checks and balances that isn't heavily favored in the way of a police officer. The fact that the police report from Brianna Taylor's death was not completely Truthful

And right now, I don't know that there's that much accountability, and this could bring in that accountability where they are graded on how they handle certain situations. And I think that is something that should be done. And I actually liked that idea. But just on feedback for you, when you use the word antagonize, the police, I recoiled. And my initial reaction was, no, I'm not a fan of that

If I do win here in the city Council, I would like to sit on the Council for two terms and then hopefully use the publicity I have from that to move on up to run for state Congress

There really should be some sort of program in place to measure. There isn't just about every other job that is out there. If you have some sort of metric that you're trying to attain and that is viewed by your superior to tell you whether you're doing a good job or not, what you need to improve upon what you need to go learn. So the idea makes perfect sense

Instead of waiting for it to build up and where we have a potential protest or a massive court case on our hands, we need to ensure that any route of brutality or lack of ethics or lack of integrity is addressed as it begins to take root, and not when it flowers into a major problem. So, yeah, that's currently how we have. And there is in place a review process only in the basic sense of an employer reviewing an employee

Hey, Jack, this is very interesting question. And I heard the core items in your proposal. There is one point I would like to add, which is I think you should engage with communities of color and get their perspective on what needs to change in the policing of their neighborhood, because sometimes it is not about a knowledge of the Constitution, and it is not about a Jack of ethics. So I'll give you a simple example
