Colors & Shapes as Abstract Thoughts

article image placeholderShapes
What is the physical embodiment that colors shapes as abstract thoughts? Really difficult to get into concrete words. Abstract feelings are are difficult to get into literal words. But there's this interesting exercise that I kind of made up, and this might actually be a real thing, but it's to examine physical objects and think of or acknowledge these abstract thoughts that come into my mind that may be difficult to put into words

We learn the names of colors & shapes as children but overtime they develop more meaning

This is really interesting. I've never really thought of shapes and colors in this way, but I'm gonna challenge myself and see what I come up with. I'll start with where you started. Blue. Blue, to me is relaxation, and it's calm. It's serenity and certainty. And it's being at peace. That's the feeling I associate with blue is passion and fire and consumption is that weird that just popped into my head

Perspective from a fiction writer!

Both of what you said just gave me so much to think about as a fiction writer because obviously you're creating whole worlds out of language that symbolizes various things. And so something like the choice of color that you choose to describe something can do so much work for what your reader is thinking and feeling in relation to that. So, for example, Leora, you mentioning what comes to mind for the color

Mine are more emotional than abstract thought. πŸ€”

I've had to think on this for a little bit, because most of my reactions to colors and shapes are very emotional. But hearing you describe the shapes that you did in the way that you did, it was like, yes, yes, I see that. Yes, I think that fits perfectly
