Homework Effectiveness

article image placeholderThe Homework Act
I understand that the countries with some of the best school systems do not even assign much or any homework. I saw a documentary a while ago in which Finland was showcased for their school system, and it was also mentioned that they do not believe in homework. They consider it ineffective and instead try to do as much as they can in school. This was the first time I ever considered the effectiveness of homework. What do you think about the effectiveness of homework and how it impacts our lives

Is homework effective? Does it create more stress on the child or parents? Is there a conflict of time for kids today? #family #education #homework

Ivan. It's an excellent question, and I will speak from my perspective. So I am a mom of two kids in the US and they go to schools where they get little to no homework. My son did have some homework in his elementary school that he went to. When I say some, it used to be one and a half hours a day, and now he goes to a school where he only has or appears to have only a couple of hours for the whole week

And it turns out if you Google this that studies have shown that homework is not necessarily an effective way to teach kids, and some of it depends on age, but generally the younger the kids are, the less that they need homework. What they need are socialization time and sort of learning how to interact and get ready for school. They also need time for play. To be honest. And a lot of our schools kids don't get enough play time at the older ages

@sudha muscle memory, creativity, and practical hands-on practice

Susa great points. When it came to homework and test preparation, we used the term in Spanish growing up, which was embodied Yar, which meant to fill up a bottle with ideas or thoughts for a class or a test. This, as you mentioned, is the muscle memory in my own experience. How much a person identifies with or truly understands the concept is directly proportional to how an idea or concept will be remembered over time

@msmithivas excellent points, time for being a kid, not an adult.

For instance, until I moved to the United States, I always felt that this was emphasizing schooling so much more than anything else and not much of 21st century skills. As you mentioned, I'm not sure how somebody that has taken honor classes things about this or feels I personally never had the ability to even achieve more than 4.0 or take any other classes
