Whole Genome Sequencing

Hey guys. So I'm still learning and experimenting with swell. Usually I would talk about books, but today I want to talk about science, and I want to talk about what have you heard about whole genome sequencing? The good, the bad, the miraculous. And what else have you heard about the genome optical mapping or copy number variant by genome analysis. So leave your comments below. I just kind of want to see what's out there in the community

Educate us?

Hi, Erin. Welcome to Swell. Oh, wow. I have to tell you that your swell was a little over my head. I mean, like, I was like, Whoa, whole genome sequencing. What I have heard this is like from I think the 80s or 90s, where there was the genome project, right where they were trying to sequence the entire human DNA. And I think they did that. That's all I know

So I was just trying to see what information and maybe even misinformation is out there currently. Okay. Anyway, some more to come, but I wanted to hear what people know or think they know without influencing that. So hopefully we'll get some replies

Screening for cancer, thalassemia and fetal abnormalities

So this is broadly what I'm aware of post that has there been any progress in terms of genetic screening, really helping out people with diabetes or hypertension? Has there been any progress? I'm curious to know. Thank you

Infants and innovation

This is a great question, and I'm excited to hear more about what people know or where their curiosities lie. I know very, very little, which is partially why I'm so excited by this outside of just the bit that I learned in my experience as an aunt, learning a bit more about genome sequencing with infants in order. My understanding of that is that being done to be able to better understand what kind of potential health problems may lay in store for the child

And I am very wary of any of those types of therapies medicines and so on because modifying the human gene is really playing God at some level and what mutations can arise, how we will evolve and what we will evolve into over many thousands of years because of these mutations is really unknown. So we are really playing with fire. That's the other side of it that I know and I could be completely off in this. So looking forward to your swell cast

Love all the responses and also let’s tie in books. #MargaretAtwood #MadAda

First of all, I just want to say that I am quite impressed with everyone's answers and soda. You really hit a lot of the content that I would like to talk about. So I'm am really excited about your response. And you're right. We have to be responsible when we're talking about technologies that can edit the human genome

As I listen to this, I just want to put a link to the Netflix movie or documentary about CRISPR because it looks at this. I'm still in the middle of it, but it has a real broad look at sequencing that might be interesting to everybody here. So here's a link
