Dune!

article image placeholderDune Cover
So I've been a big science fiction fan for just about my entire life, but a big blind spot in my scifi knowledge. Arguably the biggest blind spot is Frank Herbert's Dune. Now that's not to say, I've been in entirely oblivious to Dune, and it's many influences that's a Star Wars fan

Some thoughts on reading Dune in anticipation for the upcoming film.

I too am a newbie when it comes to Dune.

And more and more people have either read Dune and are now talking about it more or have been reading Dune in anticipation of the film. Now, I don't know whether this is something that I should read first or if I should just wait for the film. That's something that I've been toying with. On the one hand, Dennis Villa Nueva is one of my favorite directors

Thanks @BrayBray

I do remember that there was a particular scene in the first books that I thought was so clever and enjoyed so much that it stood out to me to say that that was done better than the series. But other than that, I don't know that I could give you an accurate comparison. In some ways. I'm similar to you where the details of some of the books don't always stay with me, sometimes even the plot

Just finished reading! 📖 @BrayBray @Taylor @SeekingPlumb

It's fascinating, although it does seem like it's written by an author obsessed with religion, knife fighting and ecology. How he weaves those three together is really incredible world building, and he certainly knows how to keep the plot moving along. It's interesting choices in the style of writing that he doesn't feel the need to share every episode, chapter to chapter. Sometimes it jumps ahead days, weeks or months, and it's interesting. It still kept me spelled down
