Lovecraft Country Watch Party

article image placeholderLovecraft Country: Comic-Con Sneak Peek | HBO
So to have another new thing, I was like, oh, my gosh. But that means there are all these other things I'm not going to be able to watch and read and whatever during this recovery period, I was in and I started watching it and was immediately hooked. I'm loving this show and I don't want to give too much away in case you're listening to other first one and aren't watching it

Hey, Rachel, you are now another person that recommended this show to me, so I'll be definitely joining in on this watch party. I'm a big fan of Lovecraft's stories, the Color Out of Space being probably my favorite, The Rats in the Walls being another creepy stories. I really dig cosmic horror. I understand some of the criticisms towards it, but I've personally always really enjoyed it

I'm another one. Who's in on this? Kevin Smith has been raving about this show, as has Mark Bernardin. So I'm going to dive in soon. We've just been watching a bunch of other stuff. Maybe tonight, maybe I'll start tonight. Checking this out. I'm really looking forward to it, though

And I had heard some of his stories read and adapted and stuff before, but have never really sat down and read a bunch, but I've been super interested in some of them conceptually just from what I know. And I really want to read the story that shows based off of now, whenever I can make the time, have you read it yet, or did you just read about it?

Read the book, enjoying the series!

So even though I'm familiar with the arc of these characters and where they're going to end up, they're actually doing stuff that didn't take place in the novel and flipping some of the characters and their actions. So it is keeping me surprised. I think the acting and the production values are just astounding I love what they're doing. So yeah, I'm in and I can't wait to see where this goes

@Tim 🎉 is the book worth it?

And I'm curious since you're reading the book, do you think the book is like a good companion item to watching the show, or do you think we're probably fine to skip the books? Look, because you think the show is better, so we'd love your insights on that whenever you have a chance

@Rachel The book is fun, but you’re not missing much

Hey, Rachel, I don't recommend anyone read the book if they're already watching this series. And here's why the two things the book has going for it are one taking the trope of cosmic horror and dread of unknowable mysteries that will threaten your very existence and turning that into a reflection on racism in America. That's one thing you get out of the book

I think the way that they're dealing with that era of the race issues that were going on and tying that in to this supernatural weird a** tail. I don't even know how to describe this, but yeah, I really like it so far, so I'm definitely sticking with it until the end. Bye

That's awesome. Yeah. I'm really excited to catch up this weekend. Hopefully. I love that you said you mentioned Indiana Jones and The Goonies because, yeah, there is. There is this vibe there that I totally get what you're saying, especially the Indiana Jones part

Episode 5!

Wow. Okay. So I finally made time to watch some television and just watched episode five. Other show stresses me out. So so much. And this episode in particular, I had to put my hand in front of the screen multiple times because there are scenes that are fairly gruesome, in my opinion. Gory, although I have a pretty low threshold for that kind of stuff. But in general, I'm so amazed at how much happens in just one episode of the show

@rachel HBO could easily spin this into another season

So in that sense, I think the TV series doesn't feel the need to wrap everything up, but I definitely think it would be possible, but not sure that they even want to wrap it up in a single season. We'll see

@Tim episodes 6 & 7!

Hey, Tim. So I lost all control last night and I caught up to episode eight, so I won't spoil anything for you in episode eight. But there is something I want to say about what they do with the book in the show. And I can't remember exactly which episode it's in. So once you get up to episode eight, let me know. But yes, I loved episode six, too. I thought it was amazing and they did such a good job with it

So I'm curious which ones you all feel that way about as far as the episodes. And if you finished with your overall tips take on this first season, it's
