Mr. Naughton, 1984’s ‘Teachers’, and Holding Old Films To Current Standards.

article image placeholderTeachers 1984 Trailer
Still, I enjoyed teachers today the same way I did back then, and I think I got why Naughton loved it as much as he did because it addressed the gritty side of his job, the one where he didn't assume you were too young to hear certain things because he had been around the block far too long for those kind of pretenses. So what I wanted to know is, what do you think about a film being held to current standards, even when it's from an entirely different era?

Mr. Mash, brain worms, and mirrors

And what I remember about him is he had an uncontrollable temper that I'm not really sure you could get away with in any public school these days unless it was so poorly funded that the school is just grateful to have any teachers at all. He was the kind of teacher that when a kid's desk looked messy, he wouldn't just warn you and embarrass you in front of the whole class

Now, I don't know whatever became of Mr. Norton, but Mr. Becker, we found on Facebook and a friend of Mr. Becker, he was such an impactful figure in so many people's lives, always pushing you to pursue your creative passions, right? He never suggested you needed to conform to society. He was always like, hey, man, if you dig art, go after art. If you dig photography, go after photography, that was his thing

Ode to thee hack o thee firestick

That's such a great story, and it's pretty amazing not to get, you know, too mushy about teachers, but I really think it's best special when you do have a teacher like that that continues to be in your life or shape your life in some way years and years later

Mr. Becker 4evs

But what I really wanted to say was, you need to read the entire screenplay of Teachers for Mr. Becker. Okay. I'm pretty sure. Even though I just got a brief description of him, I'm pretty sure this is what Mr. Did you call Mr. Beck for short? Pretty sure this is what Mr. Beck Becker would want

I actually called him Jerry cause his name is Jerry. But I figured if I said, like, if I told you the story, as in like, hey, Jerry, man, I'm dipping out, you know, then it would sound a little kind of crazy. So I kept it at Mr. Becker, but I call him Jerry

Enjoy! And thank you!

Youtubes. What's that? That's how that's how we ask about the YouTubes in Pittsburgh. Is YouTube only for Jaguar's or I know anyways, the. Yeah. Thank you for all of this technical advice. I forgot that pretty much you can learn how to run like a small country on YouTube. Now, I'm pretty sure. And I just think it's amazing who would guess based on these back and forth messages that I am a millennial

I think that's happening because of the legacy of this story, but it felt kind of out of place now, and I get you're probably thinking, Well, do you think when you watch a film about slavery, it feels out of place? It's not the content. It's the delivery. The delivery felt 1960s off Broadway. In fact, it didn't even really feel like a film as much as it felt like a play

He got a hold of and I remember him showing us Duel, Steven Spielberg, some student film duel. And I was fascinated with that movie after watching it. And then we had to write a kind of a review of what we thought of it and what we learned from the movie. And just a really cool guy. He's retired now. But he was my freshman English teacher, and I used to talk to him a lot about film, and it left a positive impact on me
