Talking to strangers on the Internet: making friends

article image placeholderUploaded by @Artist.Amiraa
And I found some pretty cool people on there, and I like that instead of swiping for people, what you do is you put hashtags to what kind of friend you're looking for, and then other people who put the same hashtags will find you on their feed. And I thought that was interesting because I feel like swiping a person away is kind of rude. It's so guilt riding, right? Yeah. How do you like to make friends online?

Hey, Amira, I had a similar experience, but I live in India and we're sort of opening up now and people have been meeting and, you know, we've been going out and stuff, but obviously not as much as we did before the pandemic kicked in. But for me, I think the answer to finding friends during Lockdown was through apps, primarily. The first one was House Party, which happened sometime last year

I don’t ever intentionally set out to make friends, lol. @Artist.Amiraa

It a great network area to get to know people that's just a bit more intimate than, like, let's say, Instagram trying to get to know people on Instagram if you don't know them, it's a little more difficult because you're going to be searching through hashtags or explore people. You explore tab and that sort of stuff like you're saying with that reach app and other hashtags and all that

Hey, Karan. Wow. Thanks for informing us about the whole crisis that happened with that app. I was totally unaware of that. Yeah, I think we're all enjoying swell on here. I think I'm still a little bit new on here, so I need to probably add a few more people before I say I'm really enjoying it, but I'm glad that you are that's nice to meet you on here

I feel old now, but yeah, I think I'm going to stay talking to strangers, even though all of our parents told us not to do right. Thanks for responding

this introvert likes "friends" discovered through social audio

Back in my day, when I wanted to meet strangers, I had to write postcards and letters to PO boxes I found in the back of the Z. We all know the Internet is great for connecting with people the same interest as you, whether you're a fan of a certain book or movie or TV show or hobby or an art form, we can connect with people. Social media has made that even easier. But I will say that social audio apps like Swell

Hey, Tim. Yeah. I completely agree. Like, just, you know, being able to hear someone else's voice, especially in times like these. It's it's very, like, soothing or like it fills some kind of need. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know how to explain it, but I really do enjoy just hearing people. And I'm also an introvert like you
